FAQ

Q: My tan looks like it has tiny cracks all over it, how do I fix this?
A: Cracking of a tan happens when your skin is dehydrated. To prevent this from happening be sure to moisturise regularly (at least once a day) as well as thoroughly exfoliating your skin before you get the tan. For further preventative tips please refer to our tanning tips pages. In the meantime for the rest of the duration of your tan you can try to minimalise the appearance of the cracks by lightly exfoliating the affected areas and then by applying a light coat of gradual tanner which will help disguise the white cracks as well as moisturise and rehydrate the dry skin.

Q: I have had a spray tan done but there are a few patches of skin which haven’t taken the tan up and are still white. Why did this happen?
A: These patches of skin were excessively dry and need extra attention. Use an intensive moisturiser for extra dry skin in the affected areas and then apply a small amount of gradual tanner to the white areas.

Q: My hands are always the first body part to become white again, how can I fix this?
A: This is due to the fact that we wash our hands more than any other body part throughout the day. Hot soapy water is a well known tan remover so if possible try to use SLS-free handwash as this will not strip the tan as quickly. If this is not possible, simply use a bronzing powder and a kabuki brush to go over the backs of your hands in your makeup routine to blend the tan from your arms down onto your hands.

Q: Help! I had a spray tan done last night and when I woke up this morning I had hand prints on my body where the solution had absorbed from my body onto my palms. How can I stop this from happening in my sleep?
A: For some of us it can be difficult not to roll around in our sleep and accidentally touch body parts with our hands unknowingly. An easy and affective way to prevent the solution from staining your hands and rubbing off from your body is to wear loose fitting socks on your hands when you goto sleep. Socks are better than gloves as they cover your whole hand rather than individual fingers which might remove tanning solution.

Q: How often can I get a spray tan?
A: Generally spray tans last between 1-2 weeks so provided you read and follow the information on our spray tanning tips page you should not need to get a spray tan more than once a week at the most. During summer many men and women maintain a constant spray tan by having one once a week or once a fortnight and this is perfectly safe for your skin however if you are getting spray tans regularly it is important to regularly moisturise to minimise the impact on your skin. It is not recommended to have a spray tan more than once a week as you will most likely be over-exfoliating your skin.

Q: What is the best brand of spray tan solution to use?
A: There is no one answer as it depends on a number of variables. Some of these include how “fake” or “natural” you want your tan to be, your type of skin (ie. is it DHA resistant or can you develop a tan naturally?), your natural colourings (hair & eye colour),  whether you prefer to sleep in your tan overnight or have a quick tan in less than 3 hours, and so on. This is why we have independently reviewed lots of different spray tan solutions so that you can make a fully informed decision based on your own preferences.

Q: I’m a man and am interested in having a spray tan, will I be embarrassed?
A: No, absolutely not! Plenty of men have spray tans these days including celebrities and models. If there was once a social stigma about men getting spray tans, it certainly no longer exists and remains to be the healthier and smarter alternative to sun tanning.
